“Work?” The line moves forward again. “Work is boring. Although…” Jesse pauses and taps his forehead as he thinks of the right words to say, “I get the feeling whatever work you do might be fun sometimes.” He nods, satisfied with what he said and moves forward with the line yet again. The musician looks up at the clock tower and lets out a low whistle. “Climbin’ seems worth it for the view you must get up there.” When the line moves forward again the two are at the front and Jesse hands the munny over to the woman behind the stand with a quick “Two please.” The woman seems a bit agitated at the amount of munny but she gathers the change and ice cream and hands it to Jesse. “Err, here! I’m leaving town soon so this’ll be useless to me,” Jesse says, holding out the munny to Roxas.
Roxas briefly considers giving Jesse some hint as to what he does, but instead chooses to hold his tongue. He knows deep down that it’s best not to give the boy any method to pry into the affairs of the Organization. He doesn’t want anyone asking questions, because he didn’t think Xemnas nor Saïx would approve, and facing punishment was the last thing Roxas wanted to do. When the woman scoffs at Jesse’s lump sum of munny, the boy fights to hide his glare. There was no need for that sort of expression, especially from a worker whose job it was to assist the customers. The boy would never in a million years express disdain to Saïx about receiving a mission - it was lazy and rude.
Still, he holds his tongue and waits until the woman holds the two sea-salt bars in one hand and the change in the other. Roxas doesn’t shield his surprise to see the man holding out a handful of munny. Blushing slightly, Roxas almost shakes his head before he hears the girl huff and a child in line behind them tap his foot against the ground. So Roxas manages a “Thank you very much,” and accepts the munny he doesn’t feel he’s earned, acquiring his bar from the woman and steering Jesse away, toward the clocktower. “The side-entrance leads to the stairs.” Were Jesse able, he would have summoned a dark portal. But then, he didn’t want to lose his newest friend to the darkness, now would he?
